Introducing ………..
-
Mr. Phillip Coward, the director of our
Sacred Heart Private School Band.
Lessons began yesterday, October 17th and
will be held every Wednesday school is in session.
Thirty-five of our students have joined the band and
will “soon” have the halls echoing with music!
-
Mr. Chanoc Domenech (Mr. D.) our
new Physical Education Teacher.
Sadly, Mr. Maye had to move back to Columbus, Ohio due
to the serious illness of his mother whom we will
continue to remember in prayer.
Let us all welcome Mr. Coward and Mr. D to our wonderful
school!

Planning Ahead:
-
Have you remembered to return your
request for a
Parent/Teacher Conference appointment?
It is really essential that the teachers
spend some time talking with you regarding your
youngster’s progress – we also need to hear from you
regarding events or conditions which may affect your
child’s progress.
This first report card will only
be
given through a Parent/Teacher Conference.
-
Thursday,
November 1st,
All Saints Day
is a Holy Day of Obligation and a
No School
Day for students.
-
All students must be in
“regular uniforms”
beginning on Monday, October 29th.
Regular Uniform Guidelines are in this packet.
-
Please note that girls may not wear white socks
or tights. The regulation for the regular uniform
includes burgundy knee-high socks or tights for all
girls.
-
Please label each piece of your child’s uniform-
including ties! It is especially important to have
sweaters labeled since those are the items that most
frequently get left behind when classes change.
-
All students must have a uniform sweater in school each
day from October 29th-Easter. Thanks.
-
Boys must have a belt with their pants
(except for PreK) and the pants must be the Flynn &
O’Hara pants – we can notice the difference.

It’s Time to Report
-
Progress Reports for all students in Grades 1 – 8
are included in this packet. Parents are asked to
carefully read and discuss Progress Reports with
your children. If you are not happy with your
youngster’s progress, it would be a good idea to ask
her/him to explain why they think progress hasn’t
been great. Then please sign and return the
yellow copy. Your signature does not
indicate agreement with the Progress Report but only
that you have read it.
Signed Yellow copies are to be given to homeroom
teachers by Tuesday, October 23rd.
-
PreKindergarten and Kindergarten Students
will not receive Progress Reports. The report cards
they will receive in November are the reports of
student progress, not a record of grades as they are
for students in Gr. 1-8.
-
If your child’s Progress Report indicates
that he/she would benefit from
out-of-school tutoring,
you may want to look at the yellow flyer in this
packet regarding After-School Instructional Programs
at Preston High School.
Please Take Note:
-
We are putting together a
Family Directory
to give out to every family. If you DO NOT want your
address, phone, e-mail information given out to the
school community please send a note into Mrs. Ricciardi
by Tuesday, October 23rd.
-
SOWL …….
sent information on the
Thanksgiving
Food Collection
– a wonderful project to share what God has given us
with those in need in our local community. Thank
you.
-
Please
Identify:
When completing forms for pizza/hot dogs
or any other return please be sure to
put
your child’s name and grade on the forms
as well as on the envelopes. If the
envelope is discarded, we have no idea who the form
belongs to. Thank you.
Fundraising:
-
October Tuition
Raffle Money
was due yesterday, Wednesday, 10/17. I am
so grateful to those families who are always prompt in
returning your payments. If you are for late for two
months, we will just add the $250 obligation to your
SMART Tuition plan. Please take a chance on winning!
-
The absolute deadline for the
Winter
Holiday Sale
orders is Thursday, October 25th in order to
receive them in time for Christmas.
The HSO
-
Long overdue is a
word of thanks to those
who chaired our
Grandparents Day Event at the beginning of the year.
Christine Daly, Brunette Dookhie and Crusita Ortega
along with Carol Frank made the event a success – as
always! They have always “carried the torch1”
-
However, our HSO President, Crispin
Goytia-Baez and I are very concerned about the level of
parent participation so far this year. On Tuesday
evening Crispin waited until 7:50 p.m. for parents to
arrive for a 7:00 p.m. Fall Harvest Meeting and no one
came. We had a Dinner Dance Meeting and the handful of
people who showed up were most enthusiastic but they
cannot do everything themselves.
We need every family to participate
in order to provide activities, resources and programs
for all children here at SHPS. As the saying goes,
“Many hands make light work” and right now we need
chairpersons and volunteers for a number of
committees. A few cannot do everything! So, please
step up and answer “the call” when it comes.
