Let the Light of Christ Shine Through You!

  A Time of Giving

Next week you may bring in your Operation Africa boxes.  Students are to bring them to their homeroom where teachers will check them and insert the note the student wrote in class.  We ask you, in your generosity, to attach the provided envelope with the $5.00 donation for shipping to the outside of the box.  Thank you so very much.

Home Files
Just a reminder:  if you have not already done so, this may be a good time to create an academic file at home for each of your children.  In this file you could keep the report card, progress reports, and standardized test reports.  By setting up a file or folder of some type, you have a record of your child’s academic growth.  This can help you to see patterns in your child’s academic journey and help you plan accordingly.

Calendar Reminders

Monday, November 12th there is no school in honor of Veterans’ Day

Q.  What’s the difference between Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day?

A.   Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

SOS

  • Parents/guardians please be sure you label your child’s clothing – hats, gloves, jackets, scarves, etc. -we need to have names on all items your child brings to school.  So many items are identical – you know, they are “uniform!”   So, please make sure everything is clearly marked.

  • Also, parents of our younger students:  please help teach them to dress themselves for the outdoors – zipping jackets, putting on gloves, mittens, etc.   It can take “forever” for one teacher to do this for 19 or 20 students!  Thank you.

Come Visit
Have you visited our website recently?  Please take a moment to go to
www.sacredheartprivate.org
and get to see what’s going on in the classrooms to challenge and motivate your youngster.   Also, you can refer back to previous Thursday packet information.  It’s a real treasure house!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

  • Last week you received your appointment for your Report Card Conference with your child’s teacher.  We scheduled the appointments according to the order the requests were received by us.  If you did not return the form stating your preference, we assigned you to a time slot which we had available.  Please contact your child’s teacher if an emergency occurs which necessitates a change.  However, please understand that if this happens and you have more than one child you may need to come at two different times.  As I’ve said before, this report card will only be handed to a parent directly.  If you do not come for your assigned appointment, please make another appointment with your child’s teacher after Thanksgiving to come and meet and receive the report card.  Please mark this appointment on your calendar.  Thank you.

  • Your Conference is for a period of 15 minutes.   If you need more time or need to speak with another teacher, please schedule an additional time some time after the Thanksgiving Break.

  • I stated the following in previous packets:  Tuition payments are to be made to SMART or to SHPS (if you have made special arrangements) by the 10th of every month.  Although it is true that late charges are not assessed until the 20th of the month, those 10 days are for SMART to process and record payments – not a time for you to send in payments.  Therefore, please understand that if you send your payment in after the 10th, you may receive a Late Notice from SHPS on occasion  Report Cards will not be given to families who do not have their tuition up-do-date as of November 16th.   In addition Tuition Raffle Payments & Extended Day payments ($3,960 outstanding) must be current.  Tuition Raffle was due yesterday.

Time Is Marching On
We are now into our third month of school and it is definitely time for parents to
leave your children at the gate rather than walk them to line.   Believe me, even the smallest ones know exactly where to line up.   Also, if you need to tell the teacher something in the morning, please put a note in your child’s folder rather than trying to approach the teacher in the schoolyard while they are supposed to be giving their full attention to students.  Thanks!

REMINDER:
Your Food court Order will arrive November 14th. Your order will be ready for pick up at dismissal near the staff parking lot garage. Please make every effort to pick up your pies and other perishables we don't have the space to store anything for anyone.
