Family Handbook Update
Please take special note of the packet insert that says:

Addenda to the 2007 – 2008 Family Handbook
This contains important archdiocesan information for report card grading.  I ask you and your child(ren) to read this together and sign the
Signature Page and return it to the school office by next Wednesday, October 3, 2007.   Thank you very much.

Fundraising
  • Don’t lose track of your Foodcourt Fundraising brochure.  We’d like to purchase some new playground and gym equipment and we need you to make this a reality.  Orders are due by October 9th.

  • Our first Tuition Raffle winner will be announced next week!  It could be you!

SHPS Band
Last Monday students were treated to a demonstration of band instruments.  As I wrote in the summer mailing:

Band Program Outline
Fee - $43/month (Oct.-May) – There are various Payment Plans & Family Discounts

Instruments:  Flute, Clarinet, Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Drums
Instruments are delivered to the school.  Annual rental fee is approximately $93 - $129.

New instrument purchase plans are also available.
Prices are substantially lower than any retail store.

Scheduling:  ½ hour weekly small group lessons and weekly full band rehearsals.
For our daytime program, lesson times rotate each week so that academic time does not suffer.

Registration Forms for band were given out on Monday and the band instructor will be here tomorrow to collect them.   So, please send them in tomorrow.  Thanks.

Important Forms

  • On Tuesday we sent home to you the  Emergency Information Form for your review.   You were asked to make corrections if necessary and send the form back to school yesterday whether there were corrections or not.   If you did not send yours back yesterday, please do so tomorrow.    Please be sure to indicate if your child has any allergy or any other medical condition.  Thank you.

  • New families and those returning families who did not respond last year are receiving a  Family Survey.  I ask that you return the completed form by Monday, October 1st.    Thank you.

Classroom Highlights

  • What’s Cooking In The Middle School?
Middle school students participated in a cooking activity that connected with their summer reading books.   The wonderful aroma of individual pizzas filled the halls of SHPS.  Social skills were observed as students worked together in small groups, took turns and cooked their special recipes. The best part though was eating the finished products!! Special thank you to Mrs. Rosa Carra and Mrs. Rosalie Fierro for bringing the Cooking With Class adventure to our classrooms.

  • Our 4th Grade Students are taking advantage of our new science textbooks and the virtual online lab to explore Matter and Energy.

  • This week in Language Arts, the 5th grade will discuss the summer reading.  We will pay particular attention to "Frindle," and the main character, Nick's, classroom antics before he entered the 5th grade.   We will talk about his attempt to transform his 3rd grade classroom into a tropical island, and use that as a tie in to the personal narratives.  We will end these discussions with a cooking class!  Recommended by the Middle School, "Cooking with Class," under the direction of Mrs. Rosa Carra will help our 5th graders to cook up a tropical dish.
