Together We Can

The 4th Quarter of this school year began on April 7th.  You are receiving the 3rd Quarter Report Card today.  Please sign the white copy of the report card and return it to your child’s teacher tomorrow.  The 3rd quarter is often a “challenging” one for students and sometimes there is a drop in grades during this quarter.  During this last quarter, please encourage your youngsters to apply themselves to their school work.  This is not the time to slack off as we try to bring the year to a successful conclusion and prepare for final exams.  Please check your child’s assignment book each day to see when assignments are due so that you can remind them to complete all work.   Let us work together to do this.  Please note:  since the company providing music instruction this year changed our teacher in February, you will find there is no music grade on the report card.  Ms. Behr did not have sufficient time to get to know our students.

Reminders

  • April Tuition Raffle payments were due today and unfortunately we have some families who have not made their March (or February) payment yet!  I ask you to please honor the commitment you made at the time of registration last year.  It is only fair to those families who have faithfully made their payments.  We need the support of all of you.  I remind you that these payments will need to be completed before end-of-the-year report cards are given or records are sent.

  • Once more I remind you that your SMART balance is to be at $0.00 by now.  As I said earlier in the year, the cost to educate one child at SHPS is approximately $8,500 and your tuition payments only amount to about two-thirds of this amount.  The balance comes through the generosity of my religious community, The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  Therefore, I do need you to keep to your terms of the contract.  I am grateful for those of you who do so.  It becomes a challenge for me when I have $69,000 in delinquent tuition and I need to pay teachers and pay bills.

  • If you owe more than $450 in tuition, your youngster will not be receiving a report card today or be listed on our Honor Roll.

  • If you owe more than two month’s tuition, your child will not be permitted to attend school as of May 5, 2008.  This should give you time to make your necessary payments.

  • Students may begin to wear the Summer Uniform on Wednesday, April 23rd (maybe wearing this uniform will encourage spring-like weather to remain!)  Please check the guidelines enclosed in this packet.

Congratulations!.. At the Bronx Science Fair last week SHPS had 3 entries that won:

  1. Anthony Davis won 4th place out of 29 fourth grade projects

  2. Samantha Ayala and Diana Singh won 6th place out of 31 7th grade projects

  3. Julian Quinones won 10th place out of 30 8th grade projects

Well Done!!!!

  • The 3rd Quarter Honor Roll is included in this packet.  The guidelines for Honor Roll are on page 7 of the Family Handbook.  Also, please remember from page 12 of the handbook that a child who is late 5 times in a quarter will lose honors for that quarter.

  • A team of 7th grade girls represented SHPS last Saturday at The Math Olympiad at Preston High School.  Alicia Musa, Diana Singh, Marcia White, Alexa Disla Cruz, Alexandria Cartagena, Kayla Lee and Eva Pena spent time after school these past few months training for this with Mrs. Rivera.

  • This coming Saturday, April 19th, 8 of our students (7th & 8th grade STUCO Members) along with Mrs. Jennie Bertino will represent SHPS at the Youth Rally with Pope Benedict XVI at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie.  Our student representatives are:  Danielle Alvarez, Alina Barrett, Clare Bertino, Leilani Puerto, Dane Medlock, Samaria Harper, Alexandria Cartagena and Alexa Disla Cruz.

  • Sr. Estelle and I will be attending Pope Benedict XVI’s mass for religious at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday morning – I will be sure to remember each of you in prayer at that time.
