Lent 2008 Week 3:    We Will Sow Seeds of Love By Fasting.
  • say "No" to bad habits

  • say "No" to sin

  • say "No" to foods

  • say "No" to TV programs that distract us or keep us from helping

  • say "No" to all that takes us from God

Time to “Say Cheese!
  • In this packet you will find the flyer announcing Spring Pictures for Tuesday, March 4th.   Of course, this is completely optional.  Students may wear their own “dress-up” clothes for these pictures.   Guidelines for this Casual Dress Up Day are also enclosed.  Please refer to them in planning the “picture day wardrobe.”  Spring Pictures Dress Guidelines

  • There is also another notice regarding sibling pictures for Spring.  A response is needed.

Tuition Raffle

  • The Due Date for the February Tuition Raffle has been extended to Friday, February 22nd due to the long weekend.

  • Since the number of weeks we are in school in March is limited, the March Tuition Raffle will be sent home next week.  I just want to remind you that in March and in April you will be receiving 3 Tuition Raffle Tickets instead of 2 because you will not receive any in June.  It’s still the same total amount for the year:  20, but we are spreading it over 9 months rather than 10.  We will draw two tickets during March and April.  I sincerely thank all of you who so promptly send in the monthly payments – what a joy to work with you!

Looking Forward to a Great Evening
Saturday, March 1st is the event of the year – our Father/Daughter Dance!  It was such a delight last year to see so many of our lovely young ladies with their handsome “dates” for this special event.  If you haven’t yet sent in your reservation, you have another opportunity in this packet.  Please don’t miss out on this “memory building event!”

Planning for September

  • In this packet is included a Release of Records form.  Once you have made a final difficult decision regarding the placement of your child for next year, please submit this form so that we can begin to prepare the information that needs to be sent to a new school.  Thank you.

  • At times we have been putting in the packet flyers from various schools that are ready and willing to welcome your children next year.   The principals have contacted me and asked if I would distribute the flyers.  This inclusion of these schools’ flyers is not to be considered a recommendation or “endorsement” by Sacred Heart Private School.  You, as parents, need to go and visit these schools and see whether or not which one is the best fit for your child and your family.

Calendar Updates
At our February Faculty meeting we spent some time planning Student Activities for the remainder of the year.  In this packet is a Save-the-Date flyer so you can plan and budget.  I’d like you to mark some special days on the yearly calendar:

  • Friday, April 18th Spring Holiday – No School

  • Monday, May 5th:  School will be in session for all.

  • Wednesday, June 18th:  Grade 7 Sending Forth Ceremony @ 5:00 p.m.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS – FINALISTS ANNOUNCED IN THE BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE NEW YORK ARCHDIOCESE

Last year’s 6th grade and 8th grade entered the Bicentennial Film Festival sponsored by the New York Bicentennial Committee.  Then grade 6 students, Diana Singh, Samantha Ayala, and Andy Torres, along with then 8th graders Emely Garcia, Ada Maria Cartagena, and Taina Reyes researched topics of interest and went on to be named finalists in the contest.  The entry submitted by Diana, Samantha, and Andy was titled “New York Saints”.  Emely, Ada Maria, and Taina submitted an entry titled “Through Faith We Grow”.    We might have some future film-makers in our midst.  The finalists, along with moderators, Margaret Antosca and Jennie Bertino, and Sister Judith, will be attending an awards ceremony and reception on Monday, March 3, at Sony Wonder Technology Lab.  All films, sent in by various schools, will be premiered at this ceremony.  We are all so proud of the students’ hard work.

Don’t Forget:  In last week’s packet there were three announcements:

  • All SHPS Families will have an opportunity to “water our Tree of Life.”  The tree is posted on the first floor landing and it is unique:  the branches are the continents of the world.  We would like this tree to include the names of your loved ones, living or deceased, whom you would like us to remember in prayer.

  • During this time of Lent we would like to share our school chapel with you. As you drop off your child you may want to take this time in the morning to drop into the school chapel to say a prayer. Maybe you have a loved one who is ill and in need of healing, maybe you would like to ask for guidance in finding a school for your child, maybe you are searching for a new job, maybe you are looking for peace of heart or maybe you want to offer a prayer of gratitude or sit quietly in the presence of the Lord.   If so, come into chapel and offer a prayer.

  • Scout Uniform Day:  the last Monday of each month which is Monday, February 25th.

Some Reminders:

  • Choir will meet next Tuesday, February 26th from 3:00 – 3:45 in Grade 4.

  • Science Fair projects are to be brought in next Friday, February 29th.  They are to be brought to the All Purpose Hall and placed on the tables that will be set up.
