A Note of Concern
I have recently heard that there is
a group called Friends of Sacred Heart Private School that is still trying to tap into financial resources to allow SHPS to remain open.  I also understand that because of this many parents, even at this late date, still haven't committed to a different school for their children.

This greatly concerns me.  In a few weeks the Cardinal’s Scholarships will be made available and the archdiocesan schools, needing to secure their own enrollments for September, will be accepting students eligible for these scholarships. These scholarships go to current public school students applying for a parish school. I am most concerned that those parents who haven’t committed to another school are going to be left out – you may not find a place for your child if you don’t act now.

Please Note:  In this packet you will find a flyer from St. Anselm School which arrived in our school office just before Easter vacation.  We also have flyers from this school in the office in both English and Spanish.  If you want a flyer just send in a note to Mrs. DeLeon.

New Face in the Office
I know that many of you have heard that Mrs. Ricciardi has resigned her position as our School Secretary to take a new position at Einstein College of Medicine.  Although she would have preferred to stay until the end of the school year, this was an opportunity she could not pass up.  All of us are grateful for her service to our school and for the warm and friendly atmosphere she brought to the front office.

Beginning this week Mrs. Jeanette DeLeon, always so accommodating and flexible, has moved into the “secretary chair.”  I am grateful for her willingness to take over this important position.

A Special Visit and Calendar Update
As you know our Holy Father, Pope Benedict the XVI will be visiting the United States in 2 weeks.  In honor of the occasion, the Archdiocese of New York has given us a two- day holiday one of which happens to be our Spring Holiday already scheduled for Friday, April 18th.  Therefore, our SHPS
Spring Holiday will be Tuesday, April 22nd and the Papal Holidays will be on Friday, April 18th and Monday, April 21st. This gives us a 5 day break following ITBS Testing.  Please mark your calendars now that there will be no school April 18th thru April 22nd.   Thank you.
April Monthly Calendar

ITBS
During the week of April 7th, we will be giving the
Iowa Test of Basic Skills to all students in Grades 1 - 8.  Please make sure that your child has plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast. Please send your child with at least 3 already sharpened #2 pencils with erasers! It is important that your child come to school every day (as long as they
are not seriously ill) and arrive on time. We are aware of some students who have a pattern of missing the tests and this is impacting their future placement- please work with us on this!

Together We Can

  • Tomorrow the 3rd marking period ends.  It might be a good idea for you to check with your youngster tonight as to whether or not all assignments have been handed in.  Most of the time low grades are the result of incomplete assignments!  Don’t let that happen in your house!

  • The 4th Quarter of this school year begins on Monday.  During this last quarter, please encourage your youngsters to apply themselves to their school work.  This is not the time to slack off as we try to bring the year to a successful conclusion and prepare for final exams.  Please check your child’s assignment book each day to see when assignments are due so that you can remind them to complete all work.   Let us work together to do this.

  • Third Quarter Report Cards are scheduled to be distributed on Wednesday, April 16th.  Before I will be able to give you the report card, I will check SMART reports.  If tuition payments are up-to-date you will receive the report card.  If you owe tuition for more than April and/May or if you owe Extended Day payments or Tuition Raffle payments, you leave me no choice but to withhold your child’s report card.  Please don’t put me in that position or embarrass your child when they don’t have a report card as everyone else does.  I am most grateful for your cooperation.

Reminders

  • April Tuition Raffle goes home to you today and unfortunately we have some families who have not made their March payment yet!  I ask you to please honor the commitment you made at the time of registration last year.  We need the support of all of you.  I remind you that these payments will need to be completed before end-of-the-year report cards are given or records sent out to receiving schools.

  • Once more I remind you that your SMART balance is to be at $0.00 by May 10, 2008.   I do need you to keep to your terms of the contract.  I am grateful for those of you who do so.  It becomes a challenge for me when I have $69,000 in delinquent tuition as I have now.

It’s That Time of Year
Anticipating that the warm weather will come and remain within the next week or two the full
Warm Weather Uniform may be worn beginning on April 23rd.  After that date students
may not wear turtlenecks for the remainder of this year.
