From the Desk of Sr. Judith....

We Light the Way to Jesus
This Sunday, December 2nd, is the beginning of the season of
Advent.  During these coming weeks we try to establish an atmosphere of hope and anticipation in school.  This is hard because of the media and the merchants who put great emphasis on Christmas shopping.   We begin a “new year” on Sunday, a new liturgical year.  Our theme for this year is We Light the Way to Jesus as He comes to fill our hearts with peace, hope, joy and love.  You will find an “at home” activity included in this packet.  Also, attached is an Advent table centerpiece.  All you need to do is put a tea light in the middle and have the light glow through.

Virtue of the Month
Going hand-in-hand with the Advent of waiting and anticipation is the
Virtue of Patience. PATIENCE is quiet hope and trust, expecting things to turn out all right. Patience is being calm and tolerant when difficult things happen. It means showing acceptance when you or others make mistakes.  Patience is the ability to wait for something you want.  What better time to practice patience than when we are awaiting the Birth of Christ Jesus!

Your Cooperation Needed
Lately there has been some confusion regarding Field Trips and the Thanksgiving Feast. Parents have said they have paid; teachers don’t have a record of this.  I wrote the following in a newsletter on November 16, 2006 and I expect that this procedure will be followed:
When sending in money or forms or permission slips for class trips, parties, activities, etc. it is essential that you send these in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, the event, the contents of the envelope.
These are to be sent in with your child who will then give it to the homeroom teacher.  The homeroom teacher is the one who keeps a record of which students pay and submit forms, etc. for these occasions.  These payments will no longer be accepted in the office.   Tuition Raffle, tuition payments, Extended Day payments may be brought directly to the office, if you wish.  All other payments are to go through the homeroom teacher.  We want to make sure everything you send in is accounted for so that no confusion results.  Thank you.

I am counting on your cooperation.  If you leave these payments in the office where there is much paperwork “floating around” it may not make it to the homeroom teacher and you may have to pay again.   I really don’t want to see this happen – so please do your part.  Thanks

Hear ye, Hear Ye

Dates to Remember

  • Although we return to school after Christmas Vacation on January 3, 2008, the Archdiocese of New York has scheduled a teacher Conference Day for the afternoon of Friday, January 4th.  Therefore, we will have 11:15 Dismissal on Friday, January 4th as well as on Friday, January 11th which was previously scheduled.

Worth Repeating
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, here at Sacred Heart Private School we will celebrate St. Nicholas Day on Thursday, December 6th.  Each child is asked to bring a slipper or an extra shoe to school and leave it in their classroom on Wednesday, December 5th.     St. Nicholas promised to come and visit and leave something in each shoe!  The children will find the treat on Thursday morning.   Please mark this event on your calendar so your child isn’t left out!
